MVA Advanced BTW Training with Kelly Sisk

This course is approved by the Maryland MVA for Apprentice Instructors. Apprentice Instructors who wish to obtain Full Instructor Certification must successfully complete Advanced Behind the Wheel Training.

*To be eligible for this course you must be employed by a driving school and have an Apprentice Permit. 

Course Overview:

This course is designed as an independent or directed study course. The materials are provided in the links below. Students will read and research the topics relevant to teaching behind the wheel driving lessons as directed in the materials. Short answer assignments will be completed by the student electronically.

There is one “In Person” behind the wheel training session. The Apprentice Candidate will meet with the Instructor Trainer to learn teaching techniques, reference points, and a step-by-step process for all in-car skills and maneuvers. 

The In-Person session will cover how-to teach skills and maneuvers in 3 different environments. 

The In-Person session will conclude with a role play activity that will be graded. 

There is no expectation that the Apprentice Candidate has anything prepared for this session. The Instructor Trainer will provide all of the teaching. There is no need to prepare a lesson plan nor route plan.

5. A Driver Education Training Vehicle will be provided for the In-Person session. 

Dates and Times:

This training is conducted one on one. The one “In-Person” session meets in Bel Air, MD, 21014. This session is about 2.5 hours. 

Training is available 7 days a week, morning, afternoon or evening. However, morning availability is preferred. 

You can expect training to begin within two weeks of registration.

  1. A picture of the front of your Apprentice Permit
  2. A picture of the front of your Driver’s License
  3. The name of your driving school
  4. Your email and cell phone
  5. Your availability 
A welcome email will be sent upon registration with how to get started. 

Course Fee:

The fee for the Advanced BTW training is $200 and payable via cash, credit, or check.

Instructions for how to pay will be included in the “Welcome Email.”
